Tile work on a PCS timeline

When orders come with a short window, the tile work has to be done right and done on time so you can clear your final inspection and move on.

What we publish a price for. Those are the only prices on this site. Anything else, call (512) 297-7493 and we will look at the room and come back with a straight quote.

How a PCS move tightens the tile timeline

A set of orders usually means you have a few weeks, sometimes less, to get the house ready for the housing office or a buyer. The inspection date does not move and the pack-out waits for no one. Tile work that looks sloppy or fails after you leave can turn into a headache you do not need from a thousand miles away. We work with military families around Fort Cavazos all the time, so we understand that the schedule is not flexible. We will not tell you a job can be done in a week if it cannot. What we will do is give you a clear picture of what fits your window and what does not.

That starts with a phone call. We need to know the move date, the type of tile work, and the condition of the space. From there we can say whether the job is realistic before you clear housing. We book jobs in the order they come in, so the sooner you call, the better the chance we can fit your window. We do not promise start dates on a website because every schedule looks different once we look at the room and measure it. Call us at (512) 297-7493 and we will give you a straight answer.

Which tile jobs fit a short PCS window

A full custom shower with a mud pan, bonded waterproofing, and a niche takes time. The mortar bed needs to cure before tile goes on it, and rushing that step leads to cracks down the road. On a typical PCS timeline, that kind of job often does not fit. What does fit are jobs that do not need long cure times and can be finished in a few working days. A tub surround, for example, runs $2,000 flat. We demo the old surround, hang cement board, roll on a waterproofing membrane, set the tile, and grout it. Usually that takes three to four working days, start to finish, assuming the substrate behind the old surround is sound. A kitchen backsplash or a small bathroom floor can also be done inside a tight window. For those jobs and any other tile or flooring work, call and we will give you a straight quote after we measure.

  • Tub surround: remove old acrylic or tile, install cement board, waterproof, set tile, and grout. Usually three to four working days.
  • Kitchen backsplash: strip old backsplash if needed, prep the drywall, set tile, and grout. Often one to two working days.
  • Small bathroom floor: pull up old flooring, check the subfloor, lay tile, grout, and install a threshold. Typically two to three working days.
  • Vinyl plank flooring: lay plank over a clean substrate, cut around door casings, and finish with reducers and stair nose. Often one to two working days for a hallway or single room.

How we handle the work when time is short

The same people who answer your call are the ones who show up to measure and set the tile. We do not send a different crew after the quote. That keeps the details straight, especially when the move date is bearing down. We start by looking at the room and measuring the actual space. You pick the tile, either by bringing your own or by coming to the Temple supply house with us. Once the material is on site, we set, grout, seal, and clean up behind ourselves. The site is left ready for a walk-through.

Even on a tight schedule we do not skip steps. We check the substrate for movement and level it if needed. For wet areas we use a bonded waterproofing membrane that goes on with a roller, so there is no weak spot where water gets behind the tile. Layout is planned so the cuts fall where they look intentional, not like an afterthought. Grout gets packed in full depth and cleaned properly. Cure times are respected. A job that fails after you PCS costs more than the time you save by rushing.

Coordinating the work with your move and inspection

The tile has to be done, cured, and cleaned before the housing inspector walks through or the real estate photos are taken. That means we need a firm date to work backward from. When you call, have your move date and your inspection date ready. We will tell you what is possible and give you a realistic start window based on our current schedule. We serve Killeen, Harker Heights, Copperas Cove, Nolanville, Belton, Temple, Salado, Georgetown, Round Rock, Waco, and Austin. If you live on post or off, we come to you.

You can help keep the job on track by having the space cleared out before we arrive. If you are bringing your own tile, have it on site and make sure you have enough for the square footage plus a little extra for cuts and waste. We will give you the numbers after we measure. We clean up all the debris, dust, and scrap, so the room is not a mess when the inspector walks in. There is no extra charge for that, it is just how we work.

The tile itself and the workmanship behind it

We set zellige, marble, porcelain, ceramic, terrazzo, and mosaic. We finish edges with brass or satin edge profiles so the raw cuts are covered cleanly. The tile comes from the Temple supply house, so what you pick is what gets set. You pay for the material directly, and any warranty on the tile itself comes from the manufacturer. Our labor carries a written one-year limited warranty from the date of completion. It covers issues that arise from the original installation. It does not cover the tile material and does not cover modifications made after we leave, like drilling into the tile or changing a fixture.

When the job includes flooring, we handle the transitions that finish it. Reducers, stair nose, and thresholds get set so the new floor meets carpet, hardwood, or vinyl the right way. A threshold that is not flush or a reducer that catches a foot is a call-back waiting to happen, so we take the time to get it right. Whether the job is a tub surround or a hallway floor, the same standard applies. No shortcuts, no excuses.

Questions

Asked and answered

Can you start right after I get my orders?

We book jobs in the order the calls come in, so we cannot promise an immediate start. When you know your move date, call us at (512) 297-7493 and we will look at the schedule. We will give you a straight answer, not a maybe. If we can fit the work before your inspection, we will tell you. If we cannot, we will tell you that too. The earlier you reach out, the better the chance we can make the timeline work.

How long does a tub surround take to install?

A tub surround usually takes three to four working days. That includes tearing out the old surround, hanging and waterproofing the cement board, setting the tile, and grouting. The exact time depends on the condition of the wall behind the old surround and the size of the tile you pick. Smaller tile or intricate patterns add layout time. We will not rush the waterproofing cure time, because that is what keeps water out of the wall.

What if the housing inspection date changes?

If your inspection date moves, let us know as soon as you can. We will do our best to adjust the schedule, but we cannot bump another customer who is already booked. The sooner you tell us, the more room we have to work with. Once we are on site and the work has started, moving the finish date is harder because materials are cut and thinset is curing. Keep us in the loop and we will be straight about what is possible.

Do I need to be there for the whole job?

We need you at the start for the measure and to go over the layout, so we both agree on where the cuts fall and how the pattern runs. After that, you do not need to be on site every day. Most of our customers on PCS orders are busy packing out and clearing housing, so we work with that. We lock up when we leave and clean the space daily. You can hand us a key or a garage code and go handle your move.

What does your labor warranty cover on a PCS job?

We give a written one-year limited labor warranty from the date we finish the work. It covers problems that come from the installation itself, such as loose tiles or cracked grout due to how we set them. It does not cover the tile material, which falls under the manufacturer's own warranty. It also does not cover damage from dropping something heavy on the floor or modifications made after the installation is complete, like drilling into the tile. If an installation issue comes up, we come back and fix it.
